1-Hour Delay Tomorrow (1/21): In order to give our 🚌 drivers more daylight to navigate our ice covered gravel road routes - D276 will implement a one-hour delay. In a effort to be proactive against an unpredictable daytime winter weather advisory that includes potential for late afternoon ice that could impact road conditions for buses, young drivers and staff- D276 will dismiss today at 11:30.
After the first two weeks of the new traffic pattern on Latimer Street in front of Hedding, parents and staff have reported how smoothly the transition to a one way has been and how much less chaotic it is for drop off in the morning and pick up after school. As such, our students are safer. Thank you to parents, community members, Chief Cates and the Abingdon Police Department and Dr. Curry and our school board for making this change happen and be successful. Just a reminder to those dropping off and picking up, please make sure not to block driveways of houses on Latimer and Swartz when parking, and make sure to not park in red zones, where the curb in painted red. Thank you again for your cooperation to make before and after school safer for our students.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming next Wednesday and Thursday night, November 20 and 21, from 4:30-7:30. If you have not signed up for a time with your child's teacher, you can do so through Skyward, emailing your child's teacher, or calling the Hedding office at 462-2363. Even though this is the second year of Standards Based Reporting of student progress, we understand that it can be confusing to know how your child is doing on a particular standard, without having a clear understanding of how Standards Based Reporting works. Sharefest will be held at the Abingdon community center, 801 West Martin St. this Saturday, September 14, 10 o’clock to 1 o’clock. Children needing coats and shoes MUST be present to receive these items. Everything is free at a first come basis. There is a limited amount of coats and shoes.
Star Smith and her grandson, Connor Crawford, 3rd grade student at Hedding Grade School, pose with the bank containing $215 they raised selling Lemonade Shakeups this summer during Abingdon’s Fourth of July Celebration and Backyard Sale Days. They donated the money they raised to the Hedding Special Education Fund to purchase supplies and equipment for the Sensory Room.
Don't forget to bring your backpack filled with your school supplies to Backpack Night this Thursday, August 15 from 5-6 p.m. at Hedding Grade School. Parents may meet the the teachers, see the classrooms and students may drop off their school supplies. We can't wait to see everyone!

Congratulations to these two outstanding Hedding Grade School students and their parents for being chosen to attend the Western Region IPA Student Recognition Breakfast. Mercedes Hoyle and Lucas Andrews were unanimously chosen as two students who display great leadership qualities being diligent workers, respectful to all, reliable and responsible, and also kind and helpful to all. We were so proud to have them represent Hedding and the Abingdon-Avon communities.
Now that the weather is nice, if your child(ren) would like a safe, supervised way to walk to school each morning, or if you would like to volunteer to walk with a group of students to school each morning, there will be an short informational meeting in the Hedding gym at 6 pm, Tuesday, April 23. Hedding students should do Day 2 of Snow Day work and/or look for any messages from their teachers on additional class work to complete before our next school day. Please email or message your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
This is a reminder that all students have packets of class work and/or online instruction and work to provide as much continuity to learning for our students when they are out due to circumstances out of our control, like this winter weather. Students are expected to complete the work sent home and return it to school or submit online the next day we have school. Teachers have included a note with the packets with contact information in case students or parents have any questions or need clarification concerning any of the work sent home.
There will be no school tomorrow due to freezing temps., high winds and poor road conditions. All K through 5 Hedding students were given packets of class work to complete in the event of another missed day due to weather. Please read the attached letter which explains the new Illinois legislation which allows for school attendance days to be defined by the district as long as students are participating in learning for a portion of the day. Each teacher has included a note with contact information in case parents or students have any questions.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact until February 15, 2019. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. If at least 20 percent of Hedding Grade School parents complete this survey, a parent supplement report will also be generated. The parent data will not be reported on the State Report Card. Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. Parents and Guardians, District 276 is adding two (2) additional 12:10 PM dismissal days to the calendar. These days will be used for professional development in areas of social emotional learning, trauma informed practice, student-voice, and school and family communication. The additional dates that students will be dismissed at 12:10 pm are Wednesday, January 30th and Friday March 29th.

Important Message From AA276: Last night the district was made aware of an alleged threat to the school. School officials immediately notified law enforcement, who quickly identified the source and contained any threat to the students, staff, and school community. Local authorities report they are confident that they have the situation under control. Our thanks to our local law enforcement departments for their quick and diligent work to keep our schools safe. The school district as asked local law enforcement to increase it’s security presence in the coming days. As always, the safety of our students, staff, and school community is our number one priority and we will continue to take actions to assure our students, staff, and community are safe at school.

New student registration, which includes kindergarten and pre-k students at Hedding, will be August 2 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. You will be able to register students new to the district in each building.
Walk-in registration will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. August 1st in each school. Even if you have students in more than 1 building, you can register all students at one place.

The Color Burst Fun Run has been cancelled due to low number of registrations.
I was so excited to be picked to talk to the governor and state representatives at the capital building in Springfield. It was much more than I had expected. I loved watching my students talk about how we use technology at Hedding and answering questions myself. Such a wonderful experience. #Tech2018
Today I was lucky enough to take 6 4th graders to Galesburg to visit the birthplace of Carl Sandburg. We took our collected pennies, which totaled $1195.52 which we collected from all grades at Hedding. We also presented information about what we have learned about Carl Sandburg. It was a nice experience for those students.
