ABINGDON-AVON CUSD #276 BIENNIAL STATE OF DISTRICT

- Finances

I wanted to share a two year update on the State of the District. Included in this thread over the next week, you will find district data, financial information, and stories about some of the great things happening in our buildings.

The district ended 2019 financially strong. Even without the normal tax allocations that typically arrive in June, the district finished with a fund balance reserve of over $13,800,000.00

Over the past two years, the district has received an additional $295,319.00 in State Tier Dollars. According to the new funding formula, there is often a yearly income gap between adequately funded districts and those who are not adequately funded. On a very basic level, this level of adequacy is determined by combining: taxable value in the district, progress on 26 educational support indicators, and enrollment. This data is compared across the state. The $295,319.00 is the dollar amount the state provided our district to work towards closing the adequacy gap over the previous two years. The district used the additional dollars to fund the following new academic positions and programs: Math coach (two years), writing coach (two years), MakerSpace Coordinator, SuperKids K-2 research-based reading program, a Math interventionist at AES/AAMS and a new Open- EL reading curriculum grades 3-5. During the completion of this newsletter, we were notified that we will be receiving over $100,000 in new Tier funding for 2019-2020. We have earmarked a portion of these funds to be used for the hiring of an additional social worker/school-home liaison for our Avon Campus. We are confident that we are using the Tier funds we receive to provide additional educational and social-emotional support for our students.
