Parent/Teacher Title I Compact 


The Abingdon-Avon School District is dedicated to the success of every student. It is our vision, in partnership with parents, and community, to create an environment where students are inspired to learn and empowered to excel. The involvement of parents in our schools is an essential component of nurturing students and helping them reach their full potential.  We make the commitment to motivate, challenge, and inspire each other to become the best we can be. 


Abingdon-Avon School District and the parents/guardians of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I agree that this compact outlines how they will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. 


School Responsibilities

We, the faculty, staff, and administration of Hedding Grade School will: 

  1.  Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards. 

  • Encourage and support students’ learning through data-driven decisions resulting in differentiated instructional practices 

  • Maintain high instructional standards that will promote the development of the district’s content standards and benchmarks

  • Respectfully and accurately inform parents of their child’s progress

  • Have high expectations for students and be committed to continuous growth for all 

  1. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which the individual child’s growth and achievement will be discussed within the framework of this compact. 

  • Conferences will be held once a year during the fall at the school.  Information about conferences will be sent home and scheduling will occur on a flexible basis to accommodate parents’ schedules. 

  • Conferences can be arranged at a mutually agreed upon time with the teacher and the parent/guardian. 

  1. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.  Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows: 

  • Progress Reports issued at the end of each trimester 

  • Report card issued at the end of the school year 

  • Mid-Term Reports, when applicable 

  • Updates when necessary 

  1. Provide parents/guardians reasonable access to staff.  Staff may be reached by: 

  • E-mail 

  • Phone calls 

  • Notes 

  • Additional conferences, as requested

  1. Provide parents/guardians opportunities to volunteer/participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, including but not limited to:

  • PTO 

  • Chaperoning field trips

  • Special school events 

  • General classroom help 

  • School Leadership Team 


Parent Responsibilities 

We, as parents/guardians, will support our child’s learning in the following ways:

  • Ensure that our child gets to school every day when healthy

  • Ensure that our child arrives on time and ready to learn

  • Read to or with my child at home on a regular basis 

  • Review school work, progress reports, and report cards pertaining to the academic progress of my child 

  • Work with teachers to ensure that my child understands and follows school and classroom rules 

  • Stay informed about my child’s education and communicate with the school promptly by reading all notices and responding, as appropriate 

  • Participate in, as appropriate, decisions relating to my child’s education 

  • Attend Parent/Teacher conferences 

  • Demonstrate interest in our child’s well-being by attending school functions and supporting school activities


Student Responsibilities 

As a student, I will share the responsibility to improve my academic achievement. 

  • I will come to school every day on time and be prepared to learn, participate, and ask for help when I need it. 

  • I will follow the rules of my school. 

  • I will read every day outside of school time. 

  • I will give all paperwork and information from my school to my parents/guardians every day. 

  • I will demonstrate respect for myself, other students, and adults.
